Expressions 2019 Year in Review:
2019 was a special year for Expressions. It’s the 10th anniversary of the program, and it is the best it has ever been. We’ve had an amazing time connecting with thousands of creative teens in Chicago and St. Louis, and finding out the issues that are important to them. We are so excited for 2020 and to announce our 2019 winners, but in the meantime, check out some of our favorite moments from Expressions 2019!
Bud Billiken Parade
The Bud Biliken parade is the largest African-American parade in the country and it is a back-to-school celebration that will get anyone excited for school again. At our Expressions tent, we gave away school supplies to over a 100 families, and showcased the artwork of past Expressions winners! We were also delighted to bring all of our student ambassadors along to ride on the Walgreen’s float during the parade!
Chicago Football Classic
The 22nd annual Chicago Football Classic was played between HBCU’s Howard University and Hampton University this past September. Our Expressions team got a chance to chat with all the students and families attending the event.
100 Black Men College Fair
We had another fantastic time at the 100 Black Men College Fair held at UIC pavilion. It was great to be surrounded by so many students seeking opportunities for a bright future, and it was an honor for Expressions to be part of the event amongst so many great organizations and universities.
iHeart Radio Interview in St. Louis
Our Expressions team in St. Louis has been doing an amazing job spreading the word around the city. They had the opportunity to go on iHeart Radio and talk about Expressions live on air! Here’s a few studio shots:
Visiting Schools and Organizations Across the Chicagoland and St. Louis Area
The highlight of Expressions every year is getting to visit schools and organizations all over Chicago and St. Louis to introduce the challenge to students. We meet so many smart and creative individuals along the way. This year we were able to visit over 50 schools and organizations to spread the word about Expressions.
Thanks to our supporters!
We want to thank all of our educators, students, and parents who have continued to support us throughout 2019, and we hope to carry that into 2020! Expressions would not be possible without you all.
