Our Top 5 Favorite Books

We are wishing everyone a safe, positive, empowering, and motivating coronavirus quarantine! As the stay at home order continues to expand, we know that you are running out of activities to keep you interested and busy, but we at Expressions got you! 

Here is a list of our top 5 favorite books of all time to keep you and your teens busy during the coronavirus pandemic! 

1. The Hunger Games Trilogy – Suzanne Collins 

The scene is set in North American, post-apocalyptic time, where the Capitol, the harsh government of the 12 districts of Panem creates the annual Hunger Games. Each year, as a punishment for the previous revolution, the Capitol chooses 1 boy and 1 girl that range from the ages of 12-18 to compete in the Hunger Games, where only one child remains. The story begins with young Katniss Everdeen, who takes the place of her younger sister Primrose who was selected to participate in this year’s competition. If you’ve already watched the movies, we highly recommend you read the books, their way better!

2. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Collection – Ann Brashares

Bonded together by a pair of magical pants, the four friends, Bridget, Carmen, Lena, and Tibby are all separated from their homes in Maryland. No matter what turns their life takes, they are always connected by one pair of jeans that fits all four girls and display their forever adjoined bond. 

3. The Harry Potter Series – J.K. Rowlings

The Harry Potter Series is an aging classic: 

The Series of novels begins with a young boy, Harry Potter, and the various adventures that he goes on during his time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he learns magic and spells. The journey continues through his different battles throughout the series, where he often comes in contact with his enemy, Lord Voldermort. And yes, the books are way better than the movies!

4. The Catcher and the Rye – J.D. Salinger

The expansive novel outlines two days in the life of Holden Caulfield who is 16 years old, after being expelled from his preparatory school. It follows Holden’s journey of being confused and discouraged as he searches for the ‘truths’ of the ‘adult world’ that overall leaves him emotionally unstable. 

5. The Fault in Our Stars – John Green

The novel outlines young Hazel’s life, a 16-year-old girl that was diagnosed with lung cancer. Throughout the book, Hazel is reluctant to attend the cancer support group sessions, until she meets a young boy named Augustus Waters. The book is a summary of their journey together. This book is a tear-jerker!
