What to do during the COVID-19 Quarantine?
With the outbreak of COVID-19 and the nationwide self-quarantine, we can find ourselves hopeless, uninterested, unmotivated, and lacking productivity. Often, we spend our time surfing social media, keeping in touch with our friends, and straying away from our responsibilities. It is hard to stay interested in our subjects so we can complete our schoolwork in a timely manner, and mental health struggles may arise more than usual. But, this is the time to stay active, motivated, and prepare for the future. Here are 5 ways that you can stay healthy and productive during the coronavirus quarantine by learning new skills, organizing, and staying busy.
- Keeping a daily journal
The coronavirus is history in the making, and it is important to document history. Keeping a daily journal will provide you an outlet to express your emotions, productively spend your free time, keep your mind active, and lastly motivate you to see the end of COVID-19 and share with the world. You can change the world, just through your documentation.
- Staying Active
Now, more than ever is the perfect time to pause your games, put your phones down, step away from the internet and social media, and walk outside for some fresh air. During this nationwide self-quarantine, we will often find ourselves lacking fresh air and daylight. It is important to pick up a new hobby that will keep your health on track. Whether that is jogging, learning a new sport, or simply becoming more disciplined in walking your dog. Take out time throughout your day to get fresh air and stay fit. It is important for your physical and mental health, but remember to continue to social distance yourself!
- Staying in contact with your friends
Just because you are social-distancing, doesn’t mean you have to give up your social life. There are many different ways to keep in contact and experience face to face conversations without leaving your home. You can Facetime (iPhone users), Skype, Instagram call, Snapchat, Zoom, or many more. Stay social for the wellbeing of your mental health, don’t completely isolate yourself!
- Learn a new skill
Now is the perfect time to learn a new skill or enhance one that you already have. This can include learning how to play a musical instrument you have at home, learning a new language with Duolingo, or learning about coding online for free! There are countless things you can do while you’re at home.
- Prepare for the Expressions Challenge
Now is the perfect time to consider your creative piece for the Expressions Challenge. You can pick pretty much any topic that has meaning to you and enter into the categories of creative writing, visual art, and multimedia, or all three if you’re really talented! This gives you the opportunity to win up to $2,000 in each category, $1,250 for second place, and $500 for third. It also gives you the opportunity to strengthen your creative skills.
